Natural Solutions for Allergies

231014594_11a89b351e_bThe incidence of allergies and particularly food allergies are on the rise and have increased  for both children (50%) and adults (18%) over the last 10 – 15 years.  [i] [ii]

Allergies are immune responses to substances (allergens) that are generally not harmful.    Most environmental allergies are commonly triggered by pollens in grasses, weeds and trees, dust, and/or animal dander.  Food allergies can be triggered by proteins in foods such as nuts, shellfish, dairy, gluten, soy, and corn being the most common.  They usually occur within minutes or sometimes hours after the ingestion of the offending substance, as opposed to food intolerances, which may take hours or possibly days to appear.   While some can be life threatening, most allergic responses are merely annoying and interfere with one’s quality of life.  All are indicative of an imbalance in the immune system.

Conventional treatments usually include anti-histamines and decongestants that provide only symptomatic relief .  Usually, if medications are discontinued, symptoms return; an indication that the underlying immune hypersensitivity still exists.

At Boulder Natural Health, Dr. King uses natural therapeutics, such as nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, isotherapy and other treatments to reduce hyper-reactivity and rebalance the immune system.  When the immune system is re-trained and no longer responds abnormally to benign substances, the allergies resolve, the immune system balances and usually no medications are necessary.
