Allergies

Allergies occur when a person’s immune system produces an abnormal inflammatory response to specific substances in the environment. People can have environmental allergies and react to grasses, pollens, weeds, dusts, trees and other substances in the environment. People can also have allergens to foods, or food allergies. The most common food allergens are wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, shell fish, corn, tomatoes, and citrus fruits. Often people who have environmental allergies also have some allergies to foods. Symptoms can range from a runny nose, hay fever, itchy or watery eyes, headache, sore throat, upset stomach to eczema, hives, asthma and life threatening reactions such as anaphylaxis.

Healing Allergies with Natural Medicine

At Boulder Natural Health, we offer both environmental and food allergy testing as well as natural remedies to heal allergies. Naturopathic doctors help identify specific allergic triggers–either environmental or foods–and retraining the body’s immune system to have a normal, neutral response to allergic substances. Naturopathic protocols can include natural medicines that decrease inflammatory mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes and prostaglandins. Often diet changes and specific food avoidance can decrease overall inflammation in the body and decrease sensitivity. Healing digestive issues may be necessary to address the underlying cause of allergies.

Depending on your specific symptoms, you will receive a specific naturopathic protocol including diet recommendations, lifestyle changes, and herbal, homeopathic, vitamin and/or nutrient supplementation that work together to reduce inflammation in the body and retrain the body’s immune system response. Naturopathic medicine can successfully heal allergies to environmental triggers and food allergens.

Naturopathic medicine provides natural and holistic care solutions for most acute and chronic conditions. The goal of care is different from conventional medicine because the focus is addressing the underlying cause of illness not just the symptoms.

When you address the underlying dysfunction in the body and restore the biochemical balance to all organ systems, symptoms resolve on their own.
